FINLAY CALLS FOR ACTION IN WAKE OF ATTACKS ON PROTESTANT

Ballymoney Councillor John Finlay has condemned the attacks last night on two Protestant homes in Rasharkin. One had their windows broken and the other had a petrol bomb throw at the window of a room where a little girl was sleeping. The petrol bomb thankfully didn’t ignite. John Finlay who was on the scene has condemned the attacks and called upon the Police and all Political representatives to act.

These attacks come after a week that has seen a high number of attacks on the community in the area. Tensions remain high and are a cause for concern.

John Finlay said:

“Last night I was called to a house where I found a family in great distress. Within the space of a couple of hours another house was attacked and a family left in shock. Protestants are being driven out of Rasharkin by mindless, sectarian thugs. The house that had a petrol bomb thrown at it had a little girl sleeping in the front room. Thankfully the bomb didn’t ignite and failed to break the window. Had it done so we could be looking at a death on our hands this morning.

I call for calm and for these attacks to stop. I also call upon the Republican community and their elected representatives to act and to cooperate with the Police. The people responsible should be hunted down and brought before the courts. These were two sectarian acts carried out by ‘sick’ mindless thugs. It is clearly an attack on Protestants and an attempt to drive Protestants out of Rasharkin. Such individuals have nothing to offer society.” the DUP councillor said.
