FINLAY QUESTIONS CONSERVATIVE PARTY SPENDING CUTS

Ballymoney DUP Councillor John Finlay has questioned what the Conservative Party has in store for Northern Ireland. John has claimed that by voting Ulster Unionist in Northern Ireland all people will get in return is cuts in public spending and the beginning of widespread private health care.

Recently the Conservatives attacked the NHS, with one MEP Charles Tannock suggesting charging people for visiting their GP. Cllr Finlay also claimed that the Tories would seek to impose drastic cuts on the public spending in NI if put into Government after the next general election.

Cllr John Finlay said:

"The Conservatives in recent weeks have shown their true colours. Their policies are blinded by their hatred of Labour as they sit comfortably on the opposition benches. However they cannot be let off the hook. What does a future Conservative administration have in store for Northern Ireland, and indeed the rest of the United Kingdom? Is it all about cuts, cuts and more cuts?

What impact will a Tory Government have on the Northern Ireland budget? The Conservative and Unionist New Force need to come clean and be honest with the public before the General election. They say they will clean up the mess left by New Labour, but what do they mean? We in Britain are privileged to have a health service that is free and available at the point of access.

The Northern Ireland budget is also under enough pressure from Westminster. Health Minister Michael McGimpsey has been quick to say he has no money and blame the DUP Finance Minister but will he keep his mouth shut should his partners in Great Britain cut the NI budget, or will he blame the NI Minister when the complaint would rest with Westminister?" said the DUP councillor.
