Finlay Criticises Republicans over an Illegal Band Parade in Rasharkin

Ballymoney Councillor John Finlay has criticised Republicans for hosting an illegal band parade in the Co. Antrim village of Rasharkin on Sunday evening.

The band had permission, without restriction placed upon them, for a parade in the morning with the Ancient Order of Hibernians, however no permission was granted for a parade in the evening.

Speaking today Cllr Finlay said:

“I totally condemn this illegal parade. Once again we see Protestants being intimidated in the village. Republicans seem to be able to run a wreck and ruin but Unionists are not allowed to avail of the same privileges’.

It is odd how those from the Republican side can defy the Parades Commission when it suits them and get off with it yet Unionists’ are punished for misdemeanours that are not their fault. It appears that there is one rule for Unionists’ but none for Republicans in Rasharkin.

I have written to Rena Sheppard, Chairwoman of the Parades Commission, and the PSNI highlighting this incident and demanded that they act.” Councillor Finlay added.
