FINLAY WELCOMES GAS PRICE REDUCTION

Ballymoney Councillor John Finlay has welcomed the reduction in the price of gas by Firmus, in North Antrim, by a whopping 17 percent. He said that this is most welcome to consumers who are facing soaring living costs due to the recession. He also noted that it demonstrated that the firm was being honest with their customers.

He said that it was disappointing that NI Electricity couldn’t have passed on a similar price reduction, or even Phoenix Gas given the fact that these companies are much bigger in size and dominate the local market.

John Finlay said:

“The generous reduction in gas price passed onto customers by Firmus in the North Antrim area has to be welcomed. More and more people are facing a financial squeeze and this announcement is most welcome.

It is however a pity that NIE’s reduction was only 5 percent, despite dominating the monopoly here in Northern Ireland. Many people rely on NIE for heating their homes as well as powering them.

It is also disappointing for other consumers supplied by Phoenix gas that they have been unable to benefit from any great price reduction. Firmus is a much smaller company and has been able to pass on a very generous reduction no doubt eating into their profit margins.

We as a society have to ride out this recession together. Anyone seeking to benefit from it is very selfish and not thinking of their customers.” said the DUP councillor.
