FINLAY CONDEMNS ACTIONS BY REPUBLICAN BAND IN DUNLOY

DUP Ballymoney Councillor John Finlay has condemned the actions of a republican band on Friday 9th October in Dunloy. The band was parading in Dunloy on Friday night and stopped to play music and kick the door of Dunloy Orange Hall. Members of the Apprentice Boys of Derry were meeting inside, of which Cllr Finlay is a member.

Cllr Finlay has written to the Chairwomen of the Parades Commission, Rena Shepard and also the PSNI.

Speaking today John said:

“This summer we have seen Republicans complain about intimidation and parading by Protestants in particular in Dunloy and Rasharkin. Orangemen and other members of the loyal orders, as well as bands members, who are also members of the local community, have been victim of Republican abuse and intimidation.

Is it okay for Republicans to provoke and intimidate? It is not right for anyone to do this.

Republicans on Friday night sought to trap and intimidate members of this club. They also took an illegal route parading down Station Road.

I have written to the Chairwomen of the Parades Commission, Rena Shepard and the PSNI to complain and highlight this act of intimidation and sectarianism never mind the illegal parade.

I want to see action on this. Members of the club felt threatened by the presence of a Republican mob outside the hall.” the DUP councillor said.
